Eurovision mania #5 Rock in Eurovision

Hello friends! The big countdown has begun, with only 15 days until the first semi-final! It is officially getting closer now, hence it is acceptable to play non-stop Eurovision playlists on Spotify (and ruining my wrap of the year). There is this unwritten rule that songs are influenced by the previous year's winner and immitate the music genre. For example, when Lordi won the ESC in 2006 dressed up as monsters, the following year there were many dressed up acts. Also this year we are seeing an increase in the number of rock bands, and that's probably influenced by the legendary Maneskin . As a rock fan, I decided to write a post about rock in Eurovision, and some of my favourite rock songs! Is rock a genre that brings success in the contest? If you are reading this it means you either can't wait for Eurovision or you became a Eurovision maniac by reading through these posts (or you are a really good friend by supporting this blog). No matter the reason you are here, welcome to the Eurovision mania no.4! In this post I decided to take a trip to memory lane and talk about previous ESCs, statistics, figures and lots of euro-facts. Hope you learn something new, grab a cuppa and enjoy ☕ Eurovision 1960 scoreboard Figures The first ESC was in 1956 with only 7 participating countries and was the only contest with 2 songs per country. First and second Semi-finals were introduced in 2004 and 2008 respectively, since the participating countries kept increasing. The most successful country at the contest is Ireland with 7 victories, followed by Sweden ( 6 ) and Luxembourg, France, Netherlands and UK ( 5 ).
