London Eurovision Party

Good evening Europe, good morning Australia!

A few days left for the biggest music event in the world, and I cannot wait any longer! Always the months waiting for the contest fly by, but as soon as the last week approaches times moves so slowly and the day seems endless. I call it the Eurovision Timing Effect.

As I mentioned in my last post, I attended the London Eurovision Party on the 16th of April, the last official pre-party before the show! A Eurovision pre-party is a party where some of this year’s contestants and previous Eurovision stars perform their entry song but also some of their hits. It was held at HERE at Outernet, an underground venue in the heart of central London and it was filled with eurofans from all over the world. I can’t imagine how magical Liverpool will be next week!

In this post I will share some photos from the party. Grab a brew and let’s go!

The party started with performances from many Eurovision veterans including KEiiNO (Norway 2019), Senhit (San Marino 2011, 2022, 2021), Eldar (Azerbaijan 2011), Bilal Hassani (France 2019), Tamara Todevska (North Macedonia, 2008, 2019) and Melovin (Ukraine 2018). There was also a Junior Eurovision star, Freya Skye, who represented UK at last year’s junior Eurovision contest in Yerevan.

And then this year’s stars performed their entry song! Entries from Austria, Romania and Spain took the stage before the bands conquered, such as Czechia, San Marino, Australia, Slovenia and Malta. Norway, Portugal, Finland and Lithuania followed, leading the way to the Queen of Eurovision, Loreen. You could tell the atmosphere changed when Loreen was on stage; seeing a previous Eurovision champion performing not only their entry song ‘Tattoo’ but their 2012 winning masterpiece ‘Euphoria’ as well brought back so many memories. Mae Muller gave a grand finale as the headliner , performing some of her biggest hits, an Abba cover and her entry song ‘I wrote a song’.

At the end of the party the venue transformed into a dance floor with Eurovision bangers playing all night long. The excitement of waiting for the next song was unbeatable. Everyone was singing out loud and dancing to the choreos! And the fact that they played many entry songs from Greece and Cyprus made my night very special.

It was so fun to see all these artists I have been listening to the last months coming together on the same stage giving us a glimpse of what Eurovision will be like. It is not something we can experience all year round, dancing to Eurovision songs all night long and seeing Eurovision stars performing live. That is the magic of Eurovision, bringing together all the fans from all over the world, singing and dancing to every song. It was also great to share this experience with friends that have the same passion for this show. This is my last post before Liverpool, so the next time I write we will have this year's Euro-champion! I hope you enjoy Eurovision however you will celebrate it 😊
