Top 5 2023 songs
Happy Sunday everyone!
As we are getting
closer to the contest the odds are on fire and people have already started
placing their bets on this year’s winning song (if you want to learn more about
how odds are calculated see my blog post here). In today’s post I will write
about the top 5 songs that are currently parked at the top of the odds chart.
That doesn’t mean they will 100% win, or that they are the people’s favourites,
but they stand a high chance of getting the treasured title of Eurovision
winner. Grab a brew and here we go.
1. 1. Sweden
This is not
an unusual place for the Eurovision titan, which every year lands on the top 5
of the odds. This year though it is the bookmakers favourite to win, with the
Eurovision legend Loreen making a strong return, determined to experience
victory again! Of course you know Loreen from winning the 2012 contest with the
hit 'Euphoria', which is voted every year as the fans favourite Eurovision song
ever. This year she earned the Swedish ticket to Liverpool by winning
Melodifestivalen with her song ‘Tattoo’, a dance-pop track about holding on to
love through pain. Could Tattoo become the new Euphoria and make Sweden the
country with the most Eurovision victories?
2. 2. Finland
Finland is returning
strong this year with the song ‘Cha cha cha’ performed by Kaarija. I was
hooked from the first time I listened to that song. His personality, fancy
outfit, pina colada lyrics and crazy performance make this song stand out. ‘’Cha
cha cha’’ is a fusion of rap, electronic music and metal with a performance
that incorporates ballroom dancing, a neon green bolero jacket and lots of
crazy energy. I think I found my Eurovision party outfit.
3. 3. Ukraine
Last year’s winning
country is coming back strongly, currently at position 3 of the odds. Ukraine
will be represented by the duo Tvorchi with the song ‘Heart of Steel’. As the
title shows, it is a song about bravery, courage and how to keep going no
matter how exhausted and wounded you are. ‘I cannot explain, tell you how I
feel, life is just a game and I’m playing for the win’. Can they make it back-to-back
and define their Eurovision title?
4. 4. Norway
This year is
the battle of Scandinavia, with 3 countries in the top 5. This is the highest
chance of winning Norway had since Alexander Rybak back in 2009. Alessandra
(name coincidence?) will represent Norway with ‘Queen of the Kings’ , a dynamic
pop song about self-love, the power of people and the importance to listen to yourself.
With a powerful staging, her fierce appearance and strong vocals she has a high
chance of becoming the Queen of Europe!
5. 5. Spain
After
Channel’s fierce performance last year, Spain is determined to win. This year Bianca
Paloma won Benidorm Fest with her song ‘Eaea’ and will represent Spain in Liverpool.
It is an ethnic traditional song rich with flamenco elements, which she wrote
as a chant to her late grandmother, who had inspired much of Blanca’s music.
The lyrics can’t be translated since they are traditional to the Spanish
culture and literature. It is a lullaby with a powerful performance, where
Bianca sings with five backing vocalists, representing the female ancestors and
celebrating their power and strength.
