Album Artworks

Hello people!

Thanks for coming back to my blog, it means a lot to me! I hope you are enjoying your summer, whether you are in the office or chilling by the sea. In this post I decided to talk about album covers and show you some of my favourite artworks and the story behind them. Grab a cup of coffee or a pint of beer (depending on the time you are reading this) and enjoy!

💗💗💗

  • Primal Scream -Screamadelica (Creation Records, 1991)

My favourite Primal Scream album which I didn't discover because of the cover (they say don't judge a book by its cover, not a vinyl, anyway). This artwork was created by an artist working in Creation Records, the record company that released the album, who saw a water sport in his office ceiling after taking LSD. And that's the result.
  • The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band (Parlophone, 1967)

This album artwork was created with the intention to show a new band surrounded by its fans after a show in the park. It shows the Beatles in the front, with amazing colored costumes as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, surrounded by photographs of famous people chosen by the Beatles and the designer Peter Blake, such as Bob Dylan, Edgar Allan Poe, Marilyn Monroe, Oscar Wilde, Albert Einstein and many more historic people. On the front row you can see Wax figures of the Beatles. You can also see some items, including a stone figure of Snow White, a baritone horn, a garden gnome and a doll of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi.

This artwork requires lots of hours of staring and exploring, discovering new people each time!

  • Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (MCA (US), DJM (UK), 1973)

This is a cover I would like to have as a poster. It was designed by illustrator Ian Beck, showing Elton John stepping into a poster. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a song about leaving the ugliness of the city and a failed romance and going back to the happiness of the countryside. It shows Elton stepping away in the poster that will take him away from the city. Also Elton's outfit is so glamorous!

  • Led Zeppelin- Physical Graffiti ( Swan Song Records, 1975)

Zeppelin's (greatest?) album has a cover showing a tenement block, which is located at St Mark's Place in New York City. Peter Corriston, the designer, was looking for a building that could fit the square album cover with interesting details, and photographed that one. The front cover is a daytime shot of the block, whereas the back cover shows a nighttime shot. I like it as it has a mysterious looking and gives a vibe of New York City, a crowded place with many blocks filling the streets. Also imagine how cool would be to live in that block?

  • The Clash-London Calling (CBS Records, 1979)

One of the best rock and roll photographs of all time. It shows the bassist Paul Simonon smashing his bass on stage during a concert in New York City. The reason? He just learned that the bouncers at the concert didn't allow people to stand up on their seats and he got frustrated. A valid reason to smash your Fender bass. Also the letters might look familiar to you, that's because it was a commendation to Elvis self-titled album.

RCA Victor, 1956

💗💗💗

Which one is your favourite album cover? I would like to know! Also if you ever bought an album based on its cover let me know so I won't feel weird.

Have a nice weekend with lots of music fun!

Lots of love,
Sofia
