Summer 2020 Releases
Hello friends!
Summer 2020 is coming to an end, no matter how hard it is to realise. This was definitely a different summer, but it made me appreciate the joys and beautiful places that UK has to offer. Summer doesn't always mean sun and sea, it can mean rain and thunders with lots of beers and amazing albums! There were many great albums released by great bands this summer, and in this post I will wave summer goodbye with some of my favourite summer 2020 releases.
1. 'A Hero's Death'- Fontaines D.C (31st July 2020, Partisan Records)
The band's second album, after their successful, Rough Trade's album of the year Dogrel.Everyone was waiting for the Dublin punk-rockers to release new material, and they didn't disappoint. A Hero's Death has a more melancholic sound, memorable tunes with meaningful lyrics that can bring you down. But "Life ain't always empty".
2.'So When You Gonna'-Dream Wife (3rd July 2020, Lucky Number)
Probably the most girl-empowering album ever, which was entirely produced by a team of womxn. So When You Gonna is full of feminist punk anthems with amazing guitar riffs but at the same time it contains emotional honest lyrics, covering important topics that women encounter such as miscarriages, abortions and body shaming. Dream Wife is a band full of energy and positive vibes, telling all womxn to follow their heart, stand for their values and don't be ashamed of anything!
3. 'The prettiest curse'- Hinds (5th of June 2020, Lucky Number)
The Prettiest curse is the 3rd album by the Spanish garage-rockers and it's characterized by a pop-approach, lots of synthesizers, backing vocals and girl-power. Also for the first time they included their native language in the lyrics, reminding the people where they come from and their original identity.
4. 'Deep Down Happy'- Sports Team (5th of June 2020, Island Records)
The long-awaited debut studio album of Sports Team, which lost the number 1 rank on UK albums chart to Lady Gaga's Chromatica. It was released during summer for a reason, since its full of energetic up-beat songs that only remind you of British summertime.
💜💜💜💜
It has been a great musical summer with many promising releases from great bands! There are many more amazing albums that have released, but I need to learn how to choose and also how to keep my posts short. I really recommend listening to these albums if you haven't , it's going to be a great way to start your autumn!
Wishing you a great weekend and an even greater bank holiday!
Lots of love,
Sofia
